Wait… Isn’t Titus partially based on Ovid’s story about the rape of Phillomel? And Phillomel was able to write out the name of her rapist so Shakes had Chir. and Dem. one-up that guy?
Yep. I’m pretty sure Ovid’s Phillomel is a minor source at least. I’m starting to get the feeling that Shakespeare was in a very “Ancient Tragedies of Greece” mood when he wrote Titus Andronicus.
